The Mumbwa district could play a bigger role in Zambia’s economic growth as the Government’s Grow Zambia agenda places greater emphasis on production, industrialisation and private-sector investment.

Mumbwa Central’s Member of Parliament Clarence Chisuku said the constituency has the agricultural, mineral and tourism resources needed to contribute to the country’s broader economic transformation. He welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema’s Grow Zambia agenda, saying its focus on increasing production and expanding private-sector participation could create opportunities for communities and businesses in Mumbwa.

“Grow Zambia will mostly benefit us as people, especially here in Mumbwa where we have minerals, agriculture and tourism. Mumbwa is one of the areas with the potential that the President has spoken about, and as a Member of Parliament, I have to make sure that our people are benefiting,” said Chisuku. He said the shift towards production, industrialisation and private-sector development could help create jobs, expand businesses and improve livelihoods if Mumbwa’s available resources are effectively developed.

In addition, Chisuku said his role would include working with Government, local authorities, traditional leaders, farmers, investors and other stakeholders to translate the constituency’s resources into tangible economic opportunities. He identified increased agricultural production, responsible mineral development and tourism promotion as areas that could strengthen Mumbwa’s local economy while contributing to national growth targets.

The MP said the Grow Zambia agenda should therefore provide communities with opportunities to participate more directly in economic development.  In conclusion, he said, “Our task is to make sure Mumbwa does not only have these resources, but that our people benefit from them and that they become part of the growth of Mumbwa and Zambia as a whole.”
