Two significant dams in Southern Province, valued at over K20 million, are nearing completion and are poised to revolutionize water access for local communities. These dams, part of a larger eleven-dam project undertaken by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation, are strategically located to support agricultural activities and improve the livelihoods of rural residents.

Southern Province Minister, Credo Nanjuwa, recently commended ZNS for their dedication and efficiency in executing this crucial project. During a courtesy call from ZNS Commander, Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi, in Choma, Minister Nanjuwa reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the timely completion of all eleven dams, while emphasizing the importance of engaging local contractors to boost local economic growth.

General Solochi, in his address, underscored the importance of constructing durable and long-lasting infrastructure. He urged ZNS engineers to prioritize quality and ensure that these dams serve the needs of the community for generations to come. Furthermore, he announced plans to introduce aquaculture initiatives by stocking some of the completed dams with 100,000 fish fingerlings, thereby diversifying the economic benefits for residents.

Kalomo District Commissioner, Joshua Sikaduli, expressed optimism about the transformative impact these dams will have on the region. He highlighted their potential to accelerate development by providing a reliable water source for agriculture, livestock, and domestic use.

The completion of these dams signifies a significant step forward in addressing the water needs of Southern Province. By improving access to water, these projects will not only enhance agricultural productivity but also improve the overall quality of life for rural communities. As the remaining dams progress towards completion, the Southern Province stands to reap the rewards of this vital infrastructure development initiative.
