THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has bought maize worth over K98 million from farmers in Muchinga Province.

The agency has since paid out K29 million to the farmers who have delivered the commodity.

Muchinga Province permanent secretary Bright Nundwe said in an interview on Monday that this development is as at Thursday last week.

Mr Nundwe said the money has already started reflecting in the farmers’ accounts and this elated them.

Mr Nundwe appealed to farmers whose accounts have not yet started reflecting the payments to be patient and not resort to negative talk.

He said Government is on top of things and will ensure that all farmers are paid in good time to enable them start preparing the next farming season.

Mr Nundwe said Government intended to purchase 50,000 metric tonnes of maize which the agency has already exceeded.
