A recent visit by a high-level delegation from the Czech Republic has boosted bilateral relations and opened new opportunities for cooperation across several sectors in Zambia. Led by Deputy Prime Ministers Marian Jurečka and Vlastimil Válek, the delegation held a series of engagements with government ministries and institutions, including a courtesy call on President Hakainde Hichilema.
The discussions with Hichilema centred on strengthening diplomatic ties, deepening economic collaboration and supporting peace initiatives. The President expressed gratitude for the Czech Republic’s continued contributions to Zambia’s development, particularly in the healthcare and agriculture sectors.
At the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development, the Czech Republic pledged a donation of K7.2 million for geological survey equipment. The funding is aimed at enhancing geoscientific research, mineral analysis and exploration services. The Czech government also expressed interest in investing in Zambia’s mining sector and exploring public-private partnerships.
At the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Czech delegation raised concerns about cybercrime and called for greater awareness around cyber laws. They offered support for improving cybersecurity and shared interest in collaborating on data management systems. Minister Felix Mutati welcomed the offer and called for a strategic partnership to develop advanced cybersecurity tools that match Zambia’s growing digital economy.
Technological support for Zambia’s livestock sector was also on the agenda at the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. The Czech government expressed interest in Zambia’s livestock expansion plans and offered to assist with modern breeding techniques. Minister Peter Kapala highlighted the need for expertise in embryo transfer technology to boost production and sustainability.
A tour of the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ) allowed the Czech delegation to explore industrial investment opportunities. The visitors expressed enthusiasm about supporting infrastructure development and introducing innovative technologies and high-quality products to the Zambian market. The LS-MFEZ is also planning to develop a new Central Business District within its precincts to improve infrastructure and offer more office space to investors.
The Czech Republic’s visit signals a growing partnership with Zambia, marked by mutual interest in advancing cooperation in mining, technology, livestock development and industrial investment. Both nations are keen to turn shared goals into tangible outcomes that support inclusive and sustainable growth.
